Groundhog Day at the Virginia Living Museum

Will we have six more weeks of winter or will spring soon be here? One way or the other, we’re going to celebrate with a special day filled with winter and spring activities including a visit from the Virginia Living Museum’s whistle pig (a.k.a. the groundhog). Enjoy face painting by Kolonial Klowns, treats, crafts, children’s activities, delightful planetarium programs (extra fee), and discover more about the tradition of the groundhog. WAVY-TV Meteorologist Jeremy Wheeler will be on hand to assist the museum's groundhog as official prognosticator. A short ceremony will take place in the tradition of Punxsutawney Phil to see if the VLM Groundhog sees his shadow. The Virginia Living Museum groundhog is the official groundhog forecasting weather for Coastal Virginia. Explore the place of Earth in our solar system and its special relationship with the sun and moon in "Assignment Earth" showing in the Abbitt Planetarium at 2:30 and 3:30pm. Planetarium tickets are $4 plus admission for non-members.
