      2019 Talent Alignment Strategy

      As we strive to diversify and strengthen the region’s economy, Hampton Roads faces a labor shortage it has not seen in decades. Both existing and new businesses need to draw on a well-trained, highly competitive workforce that reflects the shifting demands in job skillsets. The Hampton Roads Community Foundation, in partnership with the Hampton Roads Workforce Council, commissioned a six-month workforce gap analysis to gauge the region’s workforce competitiveness and help create a regional talent alignment strategy.  Join us at this breakfast form to be among the first people to results of this unprecedented workforce study and 2019 Hampton Roads Talent Alignment Strategy produced by the Council for Adult and Experiential Learning (CAEL) and Avalanche Consulting Inc.  The forum includes a presentation on the workforce gap analysis and a follow-up panel  of regional experts. Featured will be:  Jade Arn, Director of Workforce and Economic Development, CAEL Angela Gallagher, Senior Associate for Workforce Analytics, CAEL Panelists: Dr. Larry “Chip” Filer, Associate Vice President for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development, Old Dominion University Dr. Johnny Garcia, Chief Executive Officer, SimIS Inc. Dr. Daniel Lufkin, President, Paul D. Camp Community College Casey M. Roberts, Executive Director, New Horizons Regional Education Centers  Steven Wright, Director of Economic Development, City of Chesapeake  Chris Engle (moderator), Principal, Avalanche Consulting   Understanding Hampton Roads is the Hampton Roads Community Foundation’s effort to advance civic engagement in Southeastern Virginia. It includes forums on key topics to help build understanding and inspire action that brings people together to help improve life in our region. Event Host The Hampton Roads Community Foundation is southeastern Virginia’s largest grant and scholarship provider. It has awarded more than $282 million since 1950 to make life better in Hampton Roads. The community foundation’s vision is a thriving community with opportunity for all. Event Partner Established by the Hampton Roads Workforce Development Board, the Hampton Roads Workforce Council, formerly Opportunity Inc., oversees federally funded workforce development programs for South and Western Hampton Roads.  The Hampton Roads Workforce Council provides strategic workforce development solutions designed to assist businesses in accessing qualified workers and job seekers in search of suitable job openings and training opportunities to bolster their earning potential.
