      EVENT DETAILS
      African-American Cultural Heritage Month

Jamestown Settlement gallery exhibits, films and educational programs highlight the culture of the first recorded Africans in Virginia in 1619 through the 17th century. Visitors can compare Angolan culture with that of the English and Powhatan Indians through activities, demonstrations and enhanced exhibits.

On February 29, Jamestown Settlement will present "After Angelo," a celebration of African American culture and heritage with a day of music, performance and historical presentations honoring the legacy of Angelo, the first African woman mentioned by name in the historical record at Jamestown.

At the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown, periodic lectures throughout the month and daily programming will explore the role and impact of African Americans during the American Revolution. The "Forgotten Soldier" special exhibition shares stories of free and enslaved African Americans who fought on both sides of the war and features artifacts, rare documents, interactives and compelling art, including a contemporary work by Titus Kaphar.

Jamestown Settlement admission is $17.50 adults, $8.25 ages 6-12. Save with a value-priced combination ticket to American Revolution Museum at Yorktown: $26.00 adults, $12.50 for ages 6-12. Children under 6 are free. Free parking.

Special program funded in part by the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, Inc., Annual Fund.
