      During the ICONIC 11th Season at Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center, enjoy four Reader's Theater events from four icons of theater. In this special series, actors will be put to the test as they present classic shows straight from the script. Each production will only be available for one night (select mondays). Tickets are only $8 with $5 early bird tickets available while supplies last. About the shows: Dominique Morisseau's Skeleton Crew · Monday October 21, 2019 at 7:30pm This moving piece of the Detroit Project series comes from an emerging icon on Broadway. Set during the Great Recession, Skeleton Crew centers around four workers in one of the last auto stamping plants in Detroit. With the factory on shaky ground, each of the workers have to make choices on how to move forward if their plant goes under. This production is directed by Eileen Engel. August Wilson's Gem Of The Ocean · Monday January 20, 2020 at 7:30pm Set in 1904, August Wilson's Gem Of The Ocean begins on the eve of Aunt Esther's 287th birthday. (Yes, two-hundred and eighty-seven). When Citizen Barlow comes to her Pittsburgh's Hill District home seeking asylum, she sets him off on a spiritual journey to find a city in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. This gripping drama is directed by Charity Robinson.  Neil Simon's The Odd Couple (Female Version) · Monday, April 20, 2020 at 7:30pm Directed by Deedra Chambers, this hilariously reimagined Neil Simon classic features a gender swap. Olive Madison has invited the girls over for a game night that is turned upside-down by the arrival of Florence Unger, having just been dumped by her husband. Their personalities clash and their friendship is pushed to the limit in this unforgettable comedy. Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin In The Sun · Monday, July 20, 2020 at 7:30pm Directed by Eileen Engel, this classic script revolves around the divergent dreams and conflicts within three generations of the Younger family. Their heroic struggle to retain dignity in a harsh and changing world is a searing and timeless document of hope and inspiration.
